Rooted in Purpose, Rising with Community
With gratitude,
Jasmine Wilder
Board President
To the RootedHomes Community,
These words are not just the title of our annual report; they reflect everything we’ve stood for in 2024 and everything we continue to build together.
I joined the RootedHomes board because I believe in the power of intention. Purpose drives progress, but it’s the community that brings it to life. Every home we build, every family we serve, and every policy we influence starts with our shared belief that everyone deserves not only a roof over their heads but also a future they can shape.
Over the past year, I watched RootedHomes grow deeper roots across Central Oregon while reaching farther than ever before. We helped eight more families buy homes in Sisters and Bend. We opened doors—both literally and figuratively—for hundreds of people seeking mortgage readiness, many of whom previously thought homeownership was out of reach. We expanded into Redmond and Prineville, transforming bold visions into real opportunities. What strikes me most, though, is how we accomplished this—with care, cultural competence, and courage. RootedHomes didn’t simply translate a flyer into Spanish and call it equity. We showed up in new ways. We listened. We partnered with organizations like the Latino Community Association. We hired multilingual staff. We built relationships, not just houses. That is what makes RootedHomes different.
As a Black woman and someone who has built her own business from the ground up, I understand what it means to navigate systems that weren’t designed with you in mind. That’s why RootedHomes matters. It’s not just about affordable housing; it’s about systemic change. It’s about planting seeds of generational wealth and ensuring those seeds have the soil, sun, and water to thrive. I’m proud to serve on a board that leads with purpose and is surrounded by people who care deeply. Our staff may be small, but we are mighty. Our donors are generous and visionary, and our homeowners are courageous. They have stepped into an unfamiliar process, navigated paperwork and policies, and dared to envision a more stable, rooted life for themselves and their families. Thank you for walking alongside us. Whether you contributed your time, voice, dollars, or trust, this work is possible because of you. As we look toward 2025 and beyond, I hope you will stay with us, grow with us, and rise with us.
2024 Milestones in Motion
Centering Culture, Language & Belonging
Reflecting our commitment to breaking down barriers to generational wealth, in 2024, RootedHomes closed 7 homes in the Poplar community, 79% to first-generation homebuyers; we began the Simpson development and selected homebuyers for all 40 homes, 58% of homebuyers being first-generation. We continue our work to support equitable access by expanding Spanish-language outreach through partnerships with The Latino Community Association and working to establish funding to hire a Homeownership Coordinator in 2025 to continue this vital work across Central Oregon.
- Selected 40 homebuyers to purchase homes in Rooted at Simpson out of 120 qualified applications.
- Sisters School District, CS Construction and RootedHomes partnered to subsidize a three-bedroom middle income home in Sisters that was purchased by a local teacher.
- Continuing conversations with the Sisters School District and CS Construction to develop a plan for future middle income housing options in Sisters.
- Secured 23-lot site for Rooted at 19th with funding support from Business Oregon.
- Received down payment assistance and equity investment grants to lower barriers for homebuyers.
- Purchased land for the Cinder Hollow development.
- RootedHomes co-chaired the Housing Oregon Rural Policy Council to raise the voices of rural communities.
- Purchased land in Prineville to build a community in partnership with the Crook County School District.
